bald patch running up the side of her scalp that was at least 3 inches in diameter!!! How could I have not noticed this before? A million questions ran through my head; when? How? Why? Was this my fault?
Ok, after the initial shock I called my husband for moral support and advice. He was just as shocked as I. Of course we immediately called the doctor to set up an appointment.
The advice nurse explained that “hair falling out” was not a life threatening issue and my daughter, Grace, would have to wait 2 weeks to see the doctor! What? The stress began to mount within the pit of my stomach! Something is wrong with my daughter and I have to wait 2 weeks to be seen! Let me tell you those were two LOOOONG weeks! We finally had our visit with the pediatrician and he said that he had never seen anything like her case before, (really reassuring), and that I should stop putting her hair up in a pony tail! I requested a blood panel be taken and he agreed. He also referred me to a dermatologist.
The blood checked out o.k.. The dermatologist on the other hand could not see my daughter for a month!!! Mean while as 3 weeks have passed since the discovery, my daughter has lost over 1/3 of her hair. Many around her are asking questions and pointing out the problem.
At dinner the other night some random man sitting next to our table told my daughter she was special and bought our dinner because he felt sorry for her!
As a mother I feel helpless and discouraged with the health care system. It seems to me that if the problem isn’t text book it doesn’t exist to many doctors.
My husband and I decided to go outside of our health care provider and take Grace to a homeopathic MD. The homeopath suggested it could be that Grace’s immune system is attacking her hair. He gave her some homeopathic remedies along with immune boosting vitamins.
I have insisted that my daughter be seen by an immune specialist at our health care provider for more testing and her appointment is soon.
Today my close friend called me and told me that her close relative was killed in a motorcycle accident! Only a few short years ago her own brother was killed in a motorcycle accident! What tragedy and devastation!!!!
The stock market is plummeting daily and more and more people are feeling the effects of our ever precarious economy.
I’m not trying to be negative. I’m only depicting the devastations of life that we all face at times.
During these times we often ask God WHY? Why me God? Why did you allow this to happen?
I’ve often dreamt the American dream as many of us do.. I deserve a good life! But, when life doesn’t go my way or as planned I feel disappointed and cheated. Have you ever said "this isn't fair"?
God never promised life would be easy. He never promised that we would live on top of the mountain peek. Yes, life does present many valleys! Sometimes the valleys seem more prominent than the peeks.
Because of sin that has corrupted the world we will all face devastation in our life. We must accept this and lean on the Lord for strength because we WILL get through this and there is someone we can lean on for PEACE AND COMFORT! Yes, there is HOPE!
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.
And not only this, but we also exult in our struggles, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;
and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Romans 5:1-5
You see, if you have prayed to God for a cleansing of your sins and you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you are saved and the Holy Sprit dwells in you! When the Holy Spirit dwells in you, you are PROMISED PEACE, and HOPE! All you have to do is ask for peace during your times of trial and hope will not disappoint you.
So, although this time with my daughter is a trial and those close to me are also facing trials I have peace and hope in these situations. I don’t ever need to worry what trials come my way in life because I can rest on the promise that Jesus Christ will be there to carry me through them.
I live in HOPE!
Love and prayers,
