Why Not Me?
There seems to be times in everyone’s life when we feel like we are getting left out. Is it because we are not good enough, or because we are being punished? I have found in this life that I do a lot of asking, “Why not me?” or “Why him or her, and not me?” I have struggled with this question as I have faced trials in my life. My mind tells me it has to be because we are doing something bad, right? That seems to be our human reasoning.  I am beginning to find that sometimes our human reasoning is not the right answer…

In James 4:2b-3, it says, “You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your own pleasures.”

Could it be that we want the wrong thing or want things with the wrong motivation in mind? In this chapter of James, James is explaining that there’s a conflict that goes on in the heart of believers. There are times we ask for things from God that are not right for us. Often God will not give us what we desire because he knows it is not what we need or is not going to be to our benefit.

Take for example… So God, “ I want to lose 20 pounds in four weeks so I can look great for all my old classmates at my reunion”… Ok, so maybe that is a little far fetched, but sometimes we are out of line with what we really need… God wants us to be aligned with His will for our lives. He longs to give us our heart’s desires, but His knowledge for what we need will always be the better answer.

If you find yourself asking, “Why not me?”… Try following up that question with “Would God want this for me?” You may find that in your asking you will learn that your heart is not always your best guide. God’s heart is the ultimate guide. By going to Him in prayer and asking Him if what you desire is aligned with His will, He will often reveal many things that you did not see. Life is so much more full when we are aligned with the knowledge of what is best for us. Seek after God’s heart for you; your joy will ultimately be full and your questions will be few…
