Since we respond to our world mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, staying in balance requires a continual process of making good choices.
The only man who successfully navigated this life consistently made important priority decisions. Like Him, we are to live in passionate fellowship with the Source of life, nurturing and loving ourselves so that we can extend love and compassion to others.
In our performance-oriented “get things done” culture, prayer can become nothing more than a spiritual “technique” we learn to get things we want.
True prayer is the communication of a heart’s expression and connection with the Source of life. When we evaluate our “spiritual fitness,” we assess what we are doing to draw nearer in relationship to a loving God.
In the same way that we would not be satisfied with learning a “technique” to become more intimate with a dear, long-time friend, true prayer finds us allowing time to meet with the Friend of our souls and expressing ourselves to Him in the manner that lets Him know that we are drawing near to Him in an ever increasing passionate pursuit of His presence and pleasure.
True prayer is the expression of the heart of a lover of God who has spent the time being available to hear and learn of God’s love. Impacted by God’s love, the lover of God seeks to please God in all they do. True spiritual fitness is making the pursuit of God such a priority that our spiritual life grows to give us balance and perspective for the other areas of our lives.
