Get the Most From Your Vegetables |
You already know that you need to eat our vegetables right? But we need to be preparing the vegetables correctly in order to reap the benefits. Steam, boil, sauté, or stir-fry? Now you will know how to maximize the great benefits from your veggies!
-Garlic: Cut or crush and add to a dish only for the last few minutes of cooking or add raw cut or crushed garlic after cooking.
-Tomatoes: Pair the tomatoes, add a little oil (to help with absorption into the bloodstream and tissues), and cook to maximize the lycopene
-Broccoli: Steam for no more then three minutes (should be bright green)
-Carrots: Add whole carrots to boiling water for 3-4 minutes, you may want to add a small amount of extra virgin olive oil as the beta-carotene in carrots is fat-soluble.
-Bell Peppers: Cut into same size slices and steam, roast, or stir-fry and add a dash of oil. Also great to chop up and add to a spaghetti sauce.
-Leafy Greens: Simmer, steam, or sauté in a small amount of water
