Everyone has the same amount of time; therefore, it is not about how much time we have but how we use our time that matters. We get our schedules so full that we are rushing from one thing to another. Then we begin to feel guilty when we take time to relax. How do we maintain a healthy balance?
When we have a lot to do, we end up thinking about all the tasks that must be accomplished and then we waste time by just being stressed about not having enough time to do everything.
Instead…
·Sit down and make a list of all the things that need to be done
·Prioritize the list with what needs to be accomplished first and so on
·Next to each item on your list write a realistic amount of time that this task will take
·Now put these things into your schedule for the day with the time period you need to get them done.
Remember to not completely fill your day; it is okay to have some time to rest! Many people start feeling guilty when they have a lot to do and they take time to just relax or do something for themselves. But this time of relaxation may be what you need to recharge and make it through the rest or your responsibilities.
If you have a very difficult and daunting task, break it up into parts instead of doing it all at once. When you work on something for too long it can become very tedious and you may stop doing your best work.
Make sleep a priority. If you are not getting a full night’s sleep (7-8 hours for adults) then you will not have the adequate energy and focus needed to accomplish your tasks and do your best work.If you have a hard time falling asleep because you are thinking about everything that must be done the next day, try keeping a pen and pad of paper next to your bed and write down everything that you must do.By doing this you will not have to worry about forgetting something for the next day while you are falling asleep.
“One always has time enough, if one will apply it well” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
